Organics in County Wicklow

Ballinroan Bio-Dynamic Farm

You may not be the sort of person given to walking around farms, but if you found the time to stroll around Penny and Udo Lange’s Ballinroan Bio-Dynamic Farm whenever they hold one of their open days, you’d want to be careful, for you could easily find that the tour of the farm could have the most profound effect on you. Quite simply, Ballinroan Farm is a farm as farms should be.

It is a complete entity unto itself, a mixed farm with crops and livestock, and it is home to the most superb vegetables and salad leaves and other foods that you have ever seen. We know people whose entire focus on food has been altered by this visionary couple, artisans who express the artist implicit in the word artisan better than anyone else.

You may reckon bio-dynamics is a load of mumbo-jumbo: if so, come and visit here, and you will eat your words, for the proof of bio-dyn is here shown to be profound in every way. Mrs Lange sells her produce at the Dublin Food Co-Op, and through a box delivery system.

Organic Life

Another inspirational Wicklow grower is Marc Michel, of Kilpedder, who now has a farm shop open at the farm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Mr Michel has always had an unorthodox and very dynamic concept of selling his produce, which is sold under the Organic Life label (you can also find it at the Cow’s Lane market in Dublin) and the farm shop is another great opportunity to get produce at its absolute peak; no air miles here, not even road miles!
