The Carlow Craft Brewery

The Carlow Craft Brewery is one of the most outstanding craft brewers in Ireland, and, with O’Hara’s Stout, they have fashioned one of the icons of the new generation drinks.

O’Hara’s is so toasty, hoppy, dark, rich and luscious that it’s virtually a shock the first time you taste it. If you are of a certain age, you will remember when other stouts had such persistence and wildness of flavour.

The big commercial brews have forsaken idiosyncrasy, so it’s down to brewers such as Brendan Flanagan to take up the mantle for beer lovers. The other two brews from the company – the red ale Molings and the hoppy lager Curim – are both excellent, but O’Hara’s is one of the indispensable tastes of modern Ireland. You will find it in pubs all around County Carlow.
