We had an early-morning fishing venture with Enda Conneely, last time we stayed on Inis Oirr, and it was the brilliant end to a brilliant Aran Islands adventure. We hauled in the pollock and mackerel, and felt we were kings of the waves as the boat bobbed about within view of the village. | |
The night before we had enjoyed a lovely simple dinner in the restaurant – mushroom and thyme leaf tart; lemon sole with herb butter and floury potatoes and monkfish flamed with brandy – and we were sorry we had no urgent excuse to stay longer and maybe do a cookery course or two in the Foodwise Cookery School Enda and Marie have built beside the restaurant. The courses concentrate on wholefood cooking for health, but the feeling of exhilaration that comes from Fisherman’s Cottage surely comes from the holistic approach of this most talented, unclichéd couple and their singular way of working. |
