The only discussion one hears about Ballyvolane these days is whether or not Justin and Jenny Green’s house is the best country house in Ireland, or the best country house in Europe?

‘What a fabulous stay we had at Ballyvolane! This is what we call an Irish Country home! We felt we were like family guests! We met lovely people there, all into their fishing and it was great fun! Justin and Jenny were absolutely delightful people and extremely welcoming. We'll be back there.’

We are getting used to this sort of feedback about Justin and Jenny Green’s beautiful Ballyvolane. Indeed, it is Ballyvolane that today sets the critical benchmark for just what defines a stay at a grand country house. The definition is, in fact, simple: look at that first paragraph again: ‘We felt we were like family guests!’ If the Greens define the country house experience, it is because they define contemporary Irish hospitality. They are generous, patient, talented, and genuinely friendly. Yes, of course you have to pay to stay here, but as with all the best hospitality, the line between family guest and paying guest is agreeably vague. You truly do feel like the house is yours, but their secret is that that comfortable feeling is backed up by superlative professional service and cooking.
