It took no time at all after Jennifer and François had opened up in Over The Moon, having spent a couple of years working in Cork city after spells in the UK and South Africa, for the West Cork gossip to be spreading far and wide about what they were doing. | |
“Definitely 100 Best material,” says a local chef. “Excellent... The lunch and dinner menus are sensibly restricted to a few well-prepared dishes, the wines are excellent,” says a friend. Both are right. This is a smart operation, and a great addition to the idiosyncratic West Cork food culture. The concision of the menus, and the careful attention to detail in sourcing, means that the dishes are tip-top: salmon gravadlax with horseradish, warm potato and beetroot; crab mayonnaise with sourdough bread and crisp fennel. François likes to contrast flavour and texture elements – chicken salad with soya beans and roasted peppers; scallops with Gubbeen bacon; whipped cream with a pistachio chocolate brownie – and it makes for eating that is light, flavourful and direct. A short list of wines, excellent service, OTM. |
