Petrol station food has reduced the noble meat pie to a travesty of its glory, but pie lovers in the north shouldnąt despair, as the superlative David Burns butchers of Bangor, County Down, have teamed up with the townąs local bakery, Simple Simon, to resurrect the meat pie to its noble status. These really are the business; finely minced beef with a rich, unctuous gravy is encased in a properly made pie crust, and together its a dream team of sweet, rich flavours. Make some salad, warm the pies in the oven and lunch is ready.
