County Dublin
On The Grapevine Dalkey and Booterstown Readers of The Bridgestone Irish Food Guide may well have been surprised to read that Gabriel and Pamela Cooney's splendid On The Grapevine wine shop in Dalkey is described as part of the Cabot and Co wine empire. Sorry! Of course, OTG isn't part of Cabot's. Our mistake. The two organisations simply share a wine importing company, Wineknows, but otherwise are completely independent. And, asserting their independence, Gabriel and Pamela are in expansion mode, with a brand new shop situated halfway up Booterstown Avenue in Blackrock, County Dublin. Here, you will find between 500 and 600 hand-chosen wines, and what is in the bottle isn't the only art: there is also a gallery upstairs.

Dublin City
Ronan Ryan & Temple Garner, ex Mermaid Cafe manager and Head Chef, have opened a new Modern Italian Restaurant called Town Bar and Grill on 21 Kildare St D2 (the old Brunos). www.townbarandgrill.com

Connemara, Co Galway
The Two Dog Cafe in Clifden has changed hands. The Internet Cafe is now owned and operated by John & Tracey Claro, who are maintaining much of the past menu whilst greatly enhancing the offerings with fresh homemade soups made daily (eg. Sweet Potato Ancho Chili Soup, Caldo Verde) and daily specials (eg Quesadillas, Wraps, Panino Italiano, etc). They also do all of the baking for various cakes, scones, cookies, and flapjacks. The vibe at the Cafe has music from the 60s, 70s, and present day, and the internet facility is also enhanced. www.twodogcafe.ie
