Transgenic Wine: The Campaign Continues
As
we go to press, the debate by the Council of European Ministers of Agriculture
as to whether or not to allow for genetically modified grapes to be developed
and used in winemaking, has been postponed, and no decision has been taken.
So the campaign continues.
Slow Food, along with their supporters (including many of you) have bombarded Snr Prodi with 200,000 postcards, and over 1,500 emails, all carrying the slogan "We are not prepared to swallow transgenic wine". This is a worldwide campaign.
Asked of the latest position, Allesandra Abbona of Slow Food tells us "What Slow Food wants to do with this campaign is to keep alive the attention of the public opinion on this important issue, by informing wine producers and customers on the risks of such a decision. So we are still working on that! Thanks for your support".
