The winter 2002 edition of Gastronomica, the United States' "Journal of food and culture" has yet another brilliant cover - George Tooker's 1964 painting, "Lunch" - and a familiarly whacky and unexpected series of articles, including one by John McKenna of the Megabytes parish. The origins of Trachanás from Cyprus; the peanut butter and jelly sandwich; living with M.F.K. Fisher, excellent book reviews and excellent design make Gastronomica one of the hot food lover's properties.
