Kinsale's got-to-be-there destination for fab fish cookery from Martin and Marie and their team.

Food lovers arrive in Kinsale with one destination in mind: Martin and Marie Shanahan's brilliant Fishy Fishy Café. It's brilliant because it's logical. Mr Shanahan is up at 5am (ouch!) to source his fish, then he brings it back to Kinsale and cooks it and sells it and Marie Shanahan serves it. That's what this restaurant and fish shop is all about.

He loves to pair a sweet chilli sauce with shellfish (go for the steamed clams with chilli sauce: awesome!) and he likes to throw chickpeas into a dish whenever he gets a chance.

But, for the most part, Mr Shanahan lets the flavour of the fish do the talking, so this is the simplest cooking, and if some little fillet on the wet slab takes your fancy, then he will cook that for you whatever way you fancy. Some white wine, a table out under the awning, the buzz of lovely Kinsale, and who cares that you will have to queue: this cookery is worth the wait.
