Microplane Graters
Last
month Elizabeth Field alerted us to the quality of Microplane
graters, and the good news is that we have found some available,
by post, in Ireland. Microplane Graters, which have proven
to be especially popular with deli chefs and restaurateurs,
and have been a trade mark of Delia Smith, no less, are
special because they use what the blurb inevitably calls
"cutting edge technology" ie they are chemically sharpened,
and therefore don't mush or crush the food, but, rather
grate anything perfectly and quickly, from fruit (fine blade),
cheese (coarse blade) to a great potato rösti (extra coarse
blade).
The range is quite extensive, including mini graters for the table, and shavers. It seems that once you own one of these you can never again go back to using a conventional grater. In Ireland they are imported by Seamus McCarthy Kitchenware, who is happy to sell them direct to Megabytes readers at a very special price (see price list below). If you would like one of these graters, but haven't been able to find one, then simply contact us (click on email John and Sally), and we will pass on your request, and they will be posted direct. Perhaps these will prove the perfect Christmas present for the foodie in your life.
Our thanks also to Heather Sweetnam, who, on this subject, alerted us to a great internet kitchenshop. See the letter's page.
