Soup:
Simply Sensational, by Matthew Drennan (Aquamarine £16.95)
Matthew Drennan worked as a chef in Ireland before he moved to the U.K. and moved into food writing. 'Soup: Simply Sensational' is his third book, and it's a stylish and confident text.
The recipes range from imaginative cold soups through cappuchino-style soups and chowders, with a sprinkling of classics given some innovative touches and, in particular, some truly imaginative garnishes, such as parsley cream for a spiced red lentil soup, hot Parmesan toasts with cool roasted red pepper soup and nifty goats cheese crostinis with mushroom soup.
'Soup' could well prove to be a cult book.
