They are doing the good thing in Ballyogan House, are Robert and Fran, making people happy, over-delivering on care and charm. “The level of hospitality had me smiling all the way: beautiful house and lovely people” wrote Eamon Barrett of his encounter with this gem in the heart of one of Ireland’s most beautiful areas, the Barrow Valley in and around Graiguenamanagh.
The Duries have that rare eye that can match the beauty of the surrounds with the beauty of the house itself. They have restored Ballyogan with perfect grace and suitability, directing everything towards a very welcoming comfort that makes you feel at home, just as some hot tea and cake, and superb breakfasts, will also make you feel right at home. It’s not just the house that is in perfect order, mind you: the rolling lawns and mature trees seem as if they too have been arranged with benign care, and gazing out at them from the conservatory is a sublime, relaxing delight. Many guests take dinner at the nearby Boats Bistro, a fine choice.
