There is nowhere else quite like Eileen and Leo Halliday’s deli. It’s quite a simple place – the design sensibility is almost Shakerish in its modesty, almost monastic – and yet there is a relish for food here that is anything but self-denying, though it may be somewhat monastic. They have the gift to be simple, and the gift to make utterly wonderful brown bag lunches, amongst a trove of delightful ingredients that you want to take from their hamper and put straight into yours.
