In a nice site on Steamboat Quay, The French Table has already notched up a year of cooking and serving fine, classical French food in a simple, clean room.
Toulouse sausage and wild mushrooms with a smoked garlic dressing is nothing less than a mini cassoulet, whilst a cassolette of pan-seared prawns with lemon butter is straight out of the 1980's, and all the better for such confident timelessness. Crispy lamb shoulder with grilled lamb cutlets is hearty fare, whilst trio of fish and shellfish with a champagne beurre blanc is light and clean. The dessert plate is one of the preferred ways to ascend to heaven direct from Steamboat Quay, an explosion of sorbets, mousses, tarts, brulees that will sweep you up to the cumulus. Value is good, and they look after their customers as guests, which says it all. A good choice for lunch as well, when value is sharp as a nail.
