Kildare Village seems to us to be nonsensical – it has no logical reason to exist – but the logic the centre so conspicuously lacks is made up for, in spades, by L’Officina. Excellent Italian foods are cooked with passionate care by a truly swish crew, and as the room fills up on a weekend lunchtime, it takes on an energy that is simply transformative. Suddenly the illogicality of the location is replaced by the logical deliciousness of this modern Italian food, and on our last visit the McKennas ate fantastic gnocchi, an excellent lasagne, first-class mushroom risotto, and before we left we spent a silly amount of money on the lovely things they sell in the shop. We’d do it all again tomorrow.
