The Tiernan Brothers’ association with fishing and the River Moy can be traced back to Michael and PJ Tiernan’s great-great grandfather Martin Tiernan, one of the foremost Fly-Tiers in Ireland, and his great-great grandsons are today synonymous with angling in County Mayo.

The shop began as a butcher, fish tackle shop and fishmonger, and remained a fishing tackle shop in the hands of the senior Tiernan brothers. In the mid 1990’s Michael and PJ re-opened the tackle shop in Foxford, and the now-flourishing business spawned a fish shop. Tiernan’s is a traditional shop – “We have very little in the freezer, just fresh fish” says Martin. And alongside the fish shop they have a busy internet online store selling tackle, and they can also be found selling in local country markets: Foxford Woollen Mills, Sat 9am-2.30pm; Charlestown, Murphy’s Londis, Tues 9am-2pm; Swinford Main Street, Thurs 9am-2pm; Castlebar Market Square, Fri 9am-5pm.
